Living Room July 2015

Electricians began removing the knob and tube wiring.  The job was scheduled to take two or three days however it took over one week.  There are large holes and slashes in the walls and ceilings.  The walls are made of drywall, unusual for the time period.  The wood furring strips were used to cover the seams.

Hello world!

A few days ago my husband and I bought an arts and crafts style house built in 1927.   In addition to the house, we have two barns and seven acres of land.  We currently live in a metropolitan area with a yard that is .28 acres. We’re surrounded by neighbors, shopping, traffic, and all the amenities of a large city. This is going to be a big change.  The house is located about 50 miles away from where we currently live.  Our current house is for sale, and will hopefully be sold soon.

The previous owners of our new home did a large amount of renovation to the home.  When they purchased it about 12 years ago it was in pretty rough condition.  Now it’s our turn to continue the restoration/remodeling and bring this house back to it’s almost original glory.  We’re not interested in creating a museum.  Our goal is to move it forward into the current century while still maintaining it’s  original character and craftsmanship.  This blog was created to document this journey.  Thank you for taking the time to visit our home.
